Birthstones & Flowers
I truly enjoyed coming up with this series. My parents kept all manner of non-fiction books around the house while I was growing up, including many on geology, which spawned a particular interest in gems and birthstones. I feel this series was something I've probably been looking to create since I was very young and finally felt it was time. Initially, I was simply looking to design the series for the sake of a series, until I realized it was perfect a calendar. Using watercolor for the birthstones and ink for each month's symbolic flower, I uncover the balance I always crave between tedious rendering and linear minimalism - and, as usual, in a white square. All of these designs are available in my shop as prints and can even be customized with a baby name and birthdate.
