I would like to assure everyone that I will be doing my best to keep my blog on here up to date. After all, I don't want anyone to miss out on future happenings!
Although I'm currently exploring around to different publishers, it can take some time to hear back from anyone. That being said, I truly want to get my books out and available to friends, family, and generally anyone who follows my work. I sold all of the copies of my first order of books at my exhibition, though I am planning to revise, and order a new and bigger pack! I will likely be doing this over the next few months and will market it in the form of a Kickstarter of some sort. As well, I will possibly be updating my online storenvy account to include prints and original pieces. In the meantime, I am brewing up a sequel to Sticky Feets, which will likely involve BUGS this time! And finally, I'd like to add that I'm debating opening up the possibility of doing art lectures at schools, colleges, or other venues. For short distant trips I may not have any issue with travel, though for longer distant trips I may be asking for mild travel expense compensation to be added to the lecture fee. This is still a thought in the making, but if anyone is interested I would love to discuss it! Here's what you've missed. I officially completed my book for my senior thesis and I ordered a test copy, which came out beautifully. I've placed a small order of 25 more books to sell at my senior exhibition on April 15th. In the meantime what's next, publishers? Working on it..
My first crit was overall very positive and supportive. My classmates and teachers seemed fairly into what I was doing and I just hope I can stick to that. I've finally finished the color study for each of my frogs and now I have to move onto the text (yuck). Here's a couple photos of my work desk and my character studies.
I apologize that I haven't posted an update for some time. I've fully moved into my designated school studio and gotten myself settled, as well as begun research and practice studies that will be used for my book project. I'm extremely excited to see the end result, even though that's still months away. I'll try to post some work in progress occasionally. Below are two shots of my studio and a color study for a piece in my book of the surinam toad.
Aside from the extremely long periods of time it takes to upload these videos and put them together, I'm having quite a lot of fun making them. My goals for the rest of my scrap illustration board are: paint a few more random animals, try some caricatures of my cats, as well as my frogs, and possibly do a series of mini zodiacs if I have enough time. Everything has been going up on Society6 for print and will continue to for the rest of summer after each one is made. I feel somewhat motivated that I'm finally building my portfolio to what I've always wanted it to be. I hope you're enjoying the videos as much as I'm enjoying working on them!
So as of late I've decided that I should keep myself in practice this summer by chopping up some scrap illustration board and doing a bunch of small pieces. Along with this, I've decided to record myself while painting them and turn them into speed painting videos. So far I've only made one, though there will be many more to come, and you can find it under my new tab for video demos.
Hey everyone, I know I haven't updated this for quite some time. As of now I'm working my summer job and starting to make plans for the senior year. There's going to be some big changes in my work in relation to what you see on the site right now, and by the end of the year it may be totally redecorated. I'm not going to go into the details of what's in store for my senior project just yet, but for a hint, you can take a good look at my tomato frog illustration - there's going to be a lot more of work like that in store.
So I didn't have a sketch ready for my special topics class, boo, but I did decide that I'm going to do The Moon tarot card. We have to use mixed media on the project, so I've decided to do watercolor with an overlay of gold-leaf detailing. I'm not sure if my new watercolors will make it here in time for the new project, but we will see.
Also I've been shipped my powdered charcoal, which I had discovered is what Stephen Gammell used in his Scary Stories illustrations. This Thursday the finals for the phobia project are due. In the meantime, here is my practice demo using the powdered charcoal. Would Stephen Gammell approve of this tomato? |
